Friday Night Workshop Transcripts

For more than 40 years, Dr. Albert Ellis provided live demonstrations of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in action at his famous Friday Night Workshops. The controversy between Dr. Ellis and the Institute came into public view when the Institute abruptly ended this Friday Night tradition in July 2005.

Not one to be put off by adversity, Dr. Ellis and his wife Debbie rented an auditorium down the street and continued to provide the Friday Night Workshop sessions to standing room only crowds. The workshops went on hiatus when Dr. Ellis was diagnosed with pneumonia is May of 2006.

In each workshop, audience volunteers would present Dr. Ellis with a problem of daily living. Difficulties addressed ranged from family, work or relationship difficulties through coping with frustration or anxiety. Dr. Ellis would skillfully guide the volunteer through the the steps of using REBT to think, feel and behave in a less distressing and more rational way. Afterward, the audience was then welcomed to join in a discussion of the problems presented by the volunteers.

The REBT Network is pleased to provide the following transcripts of Dr. Albert Ellis demonstrating Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) with two volunteers at one of last year's Friday Night Workshops.
